Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland Golf Championship 2018

 The 31st National Final was held at The Leicestershire Golf Club , on Monday  4th September 2017. An entry form and the Rules for the 2018 event are included below.

 The competition raised £11,100 towards the End Polio now campaign including Bill and Melinda Gates contribution of £2 for every pound raised by Rotary

 Once again, in order to widen participation from smaller clubs, entries of teams comprised of members of two different clubs within a District are permitted.

In addition this year there will be an INDIVIDUAL competition for which any golfing Rotarian is welcome to enter, and GUEST PLAYERS are also welcome. The number of available tee times may be limited (depending on your response) and will be allocated on a ‘first come’ basis.

The Final for 2017 was  played at The Leicestershire Golf Club once again, on Monday 4th September 2017.

On an improving early autumn day RC Leicester triumphed in the RIBI Rotary Club Golf Championship. Leicester President Richard Power with an outstanding score of 40 points helped to push Chesterfield Scarsdale, the winners last year, into second place.

 A total of 84 teams from 16 Districts entered the knock out stage. Rotary Club teams from 13 Districts came to the Final when the best two scores from three players counted for the Team Championship.

Winners – LEICESTER with 77 Stableford points, represented by President Richard Power, Mike Piper & Tony Jarvis secured the Championship Lectern, 1st Place trophies and a cheque for £1,700 payable to Rotary Foundation.

 

Singles Competition –  Winner – Clive Smith, Leicester – 42  Stableford points (Top left); 2nd Place – Tony Doveston, Harrogate Brigantes – 37 points (top right); 3rd Place – David McKean, Peebles – 36 points (bottom left).

Nearest the Pin – Richard Burton (Bottom right).

2nd Placed team below– CHESTERFIELD SCARSDALE with 73 points, represented by Paul Bywater, Peter Stevens & William Preston received trophies and a cheque for £850 payable to Rotary Foundation.

 

 

3rd Placed team above – CONSETT with 71 points, represented by Richard Burton, Gerard Murphy & Jeff Farnsworth received trophies and a cheque for £600 payable to Rotary Foundation.

 

Note. The “End Polio Now” campaign is the beneficiary of the surplus (£3,707) arising on the event. Accordingly, the above cheques, together with the £557 balance are all payable to Rotary Foundation. The matched funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will raise this to £11,122 for this worthy cause.

Next year – The number of participants has declined by a third over the last five years. Ideas for improving the marketing and advertising the National Championship will be welcome. On a pleasant early autumn day RC Chesterfield Scarsdale triumphed in the RIBI Rotary Club Golf Championship.

The Final of the 30th running of the Championship was held at The Leicestershire Golf Club on Monday 5th September 2016. A total of 97 teams from 20 Districts entered the knock out stage. Rotary Club teams from 17 Districts came to the Final when the best two scores from three players counted for the Team Championship.

Team Championship

Winners – CHESTERFIELD SCARSDALE with 77 Stableford points, represented by Paul Bywater, Bill Preston & Ron Enoch secured the Championship Lectern, 1st Place trophies and a cheque for £2,000 payable to Rotary Foundation.

2nd Place – HARROGATE BRIGANTES with 74 points, represented by Peter Wearmouth, Tony Doveston & Graham Holden received trophies and a cheque for £1,000 payable to Rotary Foundation.

3rd Place – UTTOXETER with 71 points, represented by Norman Tweddle, Len Woodward & Mike Cleaver received trophies and a cheque for £750 payable to Rotary Foundation.

Note. The “End Polio Now” campaign is the beneficiary of the surplus (£4,284) arising on the event. Accordingly, the above cheques, together with the £534  balance are all payable to Rotary Foundation. The matched funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will raise this to £12,852 for this worthy cause.
