The Jewel in the Crown

Dominic Gomersall, chief exec of Lumbers jewellers, gave an entertaining talk on the changing scene in retail in Leicester.

Lumbers have recently moved to larger premises on High Street, occupying what was for many years the Dominoes Toy shop

Historically Market Street, their former location, has been the premier location in the Midlands for retailers of luxury goods, with occupancy costs reflecting that elevated status. In recent times, following the development of The Highcross Centre, there has been a significant shift in the ‘retail centre’ of Leicester and after much soul searching, Dominic decided to take the plunge and relocate to High Street. The new premises are substantially bigger and have catering facilities on the upper level. The company now offers not only watches and jewellery but also gift items.

Single diamond rings and ear-rings remain the best sellers, proving that diamonds really are a girl’s best friend.
